How IKEA optimized 9,000 SKUs in limited space with Storeganizer®

IKEA is a global leader in home furnishing brand from Sweden that currently operates in around 70 countries with nearly 700 stores worldwide. In Indonesia, IKEA opened its first store in Alam Sutera in 2014, and in 2021 established its 4th store at Jakarta Garden City (JGC). IKEA Jakarta Garden City is also known as the largest IKEA store in Indonesia with an area of approximately 89,000 m².

The Challenge:

At IKEA JGC, operations are divided into 2 main units: in-store retail and online order fulfillment across Indonesia. As e-commerce and online shopping continued to grow rapidly, the fulfillment team manages an average of 1,500 orders per day, reaching up to 2,000 orders during peak campaign periods, such as double dates. With 9,000 SKUs but storage capacity for only 5,000 pickfaces, the team faced challenges maintaining operational efficiency.

That’s why the IKEA team collaborated with Intramega Global to increase pickfaces and improve picking productivity without expanding the warehouse space. 

The Solution:

To solve the challenge, we proposed implementing Storeganizer®, to maximize cubic space and improve SKU accessibility.

A total of 1,100 Storeganizer® units were installed across 24 bays with large-sized, 2-depth pockets. Each unit is customized with durable PVC-coated polyester pockets that can hold up to 20 kg/pocket or 100 kg/column. Through this project, IKEA Jakarta Garden City successfully accommodated all 9,000 SKUs while adding around 1,000 new pickfaces within the existing warehouse space. Not only improving storage density, Storeganizer’s ergonomic design also improves picking efficiency and pickers productivity.

By implementing Storeganizer®, IKEA Jakarta Garden City optimized its existing storage capacity and achieved better operational efficiency. This collaboration highlights how high-density storage systems can enable operational growth while keeping costs and space under control.
